Requests

Staff requests waiting on a decision from you — most often cover for a class someone can't teach.

What a request contains

A teacher or staff member submits a request with the dates, the reason, and — for cover — which classes need someone and where the cover work is. Both of those last two matter: a request that names classes but not the work can't be actioned, and one that names the work but not the classes leaves the office guessing who is affected.

Deciding

Each request can be approved or declined, and approving is what makes it appear in cover arrangements. A decision here is visible to the person who asked, so use the note field for anything you'd want them to read — a bare decline tells them nothing.

Cover arrangements

Approved cover requests roll up into the cover list: who is away, which classes are affected, and who is covering. That list is what Attendance draws on when it reports cover needed today.

Staff away

Upcoming absences, so you can see a gap before the morning it happens. Where a doctor's note has been attached, it shows alongside the request rather than arriving separately by email.

Empty states

  • No requests — nobody has asked for anything.
  • Nothing to decide — all requests have been actioned.
  • No one is away — the upcoming absence list is empty.

Note

Requests are internal to the school. Approving one does not notify parents; if a class is being covered, parents hear about it through a bulletin, if at all.
