Subject and Topic detail

Open this from a subject row on Academic Progress. It narrows from a whole subject down to individual topics and subtopics, so you can see exactly where a mark comes from.

Headline figures

  • Mastery — how much of the subject the child has demonstrably understood.
  • Topics tracked — how many topics in the syllabus have recorded work.
  • On track / Needs work — the split across those topics.

A subject with few tracked topics has a low mastery figure that reflects coverage, not ability — the child hasn't been assessed on most of it yet. The page shows the tracked count beside the number for that reason.

Topic list

One row per topic, each with its mark and state. Select a topic to expand its subtopics.

Subtopic detail

Selecting a topic or subtopic shows:

  • Accuracy — the proportion correct across attempts.
  • Attempts — how many times the child has practised it.
  • Last attempt — when the most recent one was, so a stale mark is obvious.
  • Recent work — the latest individual attempts.

Suggested next step

A short recommendation drawn from the weakest tracked topic — practice this before moving on. It's generated from the recorded marks; it is not a message from the teacher.

Reading it fairly

A topic with no attempts isn't a failure. It means the class hasn't reached it, or the work hasn't been recorded in ASAI. Compare Topics tracked before drawing conclusions about the subject overall.
