Before you start: Step 5 reads your dashboard selection — Step 1 Curriculum, Step 2 Subject, Step 3 Chapter, Step 4 Topic. Choose all four on the Dashboard first. With nothing selected the chat opens, but ASAI has no topic to build a technique around.

Rhymes & Songs

Turns the topic into something with a tune, so recall comes back with the melody attached.

What ASAI does first

It writes a first verse or jingle covering the most important concepts and suggests a familiar tune it can be sung to — Twinkle Twinkle, Happy Birthday, Old MacDonald. You are asked which tune you actually know, because a melody you cannot hum is no anchor.

Then it builds verses

Each subtopic gets its own verse rather than one long song, so a forgotten line costs you a verse and not the whole topic. ASAI is told to keep lines short and rhythm consistent, and to avoid strained rhymes that only work on the page.

There is also a rhythm element: clapping or tapping the beat while you say the lines.

How it knows you are done

You can perform the complete song or rhyme from memory with all concepts present and correctly placed.

Performing means out loud, with the beat. ASAI prompts forgotten lines during testing, then asks for the whole piece unaided in mastery.

Good to know

  • Pick a tune with a narrow range — an anthem is harder to sing quietly than a nursery rhyme.
  • This is the only technique where being a bad singer is an advantage: the embarrassment helps.
  • If a line keeps failing, it is usually one syllable too long. Shorten it rather than changing the rhyme.
