Before you start: Step 5 reads your dashboard selection — Step 1 Curriculum, Step 2 Subject, Step 3 Chapter, Step 4 Topic. Choose all four on the Dashboard first. With nothing selected the chat opens, but ASAI has no topic to build a technique around.

Memory Techniques

Step 5 · Master it by memory on the Dashboard holds six techniques. Every one is a chat — no forms, no decks, no drag and drop. What changes between them is the method ASAI uses to make the topic stick.

One chat, six styles

All six open the same chat screen with the same skeleton — only the technique differs.

  • The first message is sent for you. You never type an opener: the chat begins Help me memorize <Topic> using the <Technique> technique.
  • The header shows just the technique name, with a Tools button beside it. The Insights panel from Step 2 is not in this view — memory sessions track phases, not concept coverage.
  • The input is yours from the second message on.

The four phases

Each technique runs the same four phases, driven from the server:

  1. Priming — ASAI sets up the first two or three anchors and checks they land.
  2. Building — the remaining concepts are placed, one anchor at a time.
  3. Testing — ASAI quizzes you and prompts where you stall.
  4. Mastery — the same quiz, unaided, in a harsher order.

You are never asked to confirm a phase change; ASAI moves on when your replies show you are ready.

How a session ends

Each technique has its own completion test, listed on its page. When ASAI judges you have met it, it appends a hidden [MEMORIZE_COMPLETE:XX] tag carrying a confidence score from 0 to 100. You do not see the tag — the visible cue is the session closing with Continue to Next Topic.

Stop early and the session just ends: nothing scored, no mastery recorded.

In your history

Memory sessions appear as <Technique> — <Topic> — for example Memory Palace — Characteristics of living organisms — so six sessions on one topic stay distinguishable.

Good to know

  • Each technique is its own session. Starting Acronyms after a Palace walk begins fresh rather than continuing the same lesson.
  • The input placeholder reads "What subject should I test you on?" even though the session already knows your topic and technique. It is a copy mismatch, not a decision — type your reply regardless.
