Before you start: this tool reads your dashboard selection — Step 1 Curriculum, Step 2 Subject, Step 3 Chapter, Step 4 Topic. Choose all four on the Dashboard first. With nothing selected the screen has nothing to filter by and stays empty.

Past Paper · You Try

Open it from Dashboard → Step 4 · Ready to Ace it? → Past Paper · You Try.

This is the same paper with the assistant flipped into coaching mode: it will not hand you the answer, it nudges you toward it and checks your attempt. The other side is Past Paper · AI Solves.

The paper screen

Identical to AI Solves — the real exam PDF, page arrows, a page counter (1 / 16), Original, and the mode toggle. The difference is which side of the toggle is lit: 📝 You Try turns green.

Switching sides swaps the assistant panel's content in place. The panel stays open and the paper keeps your place — nothing reloads, so you can flip between watching a solution and attempting one without losing the question you are on.

The assistant panel

The panel is headed 📝 You Try, with the line:

📝 You Try — I'll guide you with hints and check your answers

Its opening message:

Tell me which question you're working on and show me your attempt. I'll guide you to the answer.

Three chips are offered instead of solutions:

  • Help me with Q1
  • Check my answer for Q2
  • Give me a hint for Q3

The input reads Show me your attempt or ask for a hint… — and that is the pattern to follow: type what you did, and ask it to check.

Recording your score

This mode adds a Submit score button to the top bar, which opens a small form:

  • Score — the marks you got.
  • A second field for the marks available.
  • Which questions did you attempt? — a free-text note of which questions you tried.

Submitting logs the attempt against that paper, which is what feeds your attempt history. AI Solves has no equivalent — it is not scoring you.

How to use it well

  1. Read the question on the PDF and attempt it on paper before typing anything.
  2. Type your reasoning, not just your answer — it can only correct what you show it.
  3. Ask for a hint only when you are stuck; the whole point of this mode is that it withholds.
  4. Log the score afterwards so the attempt is counted.

If it looks empty

As with AI Solves, the paper list is loaded per subject. No papers means your subject has none loaded yet.
